How to tell if you're logged in to your institution's account:
You can tell if you're logged in by taking the following steps:
- Go to http://jstor.org
- Look for the message "Access Provided by [Your Institution Name] at the top of the screen of any page on the JSTOR platform. It will look like this:
- If you see this statement at the top of the page, then you're already accessing the content that your institution subscribes to. Still can't download the article you wanted even though you're logged in? Your institution might not subscribe to that content. Contact us if you're not sure: support@jstor.org.
- What if you don't see "Access provided by [Your Institution], but see: "Have Access? Log In Through Your Library" instead? That means you're not logged in through your school or subscribing institution
- If you see "Have Access? Log In Through Your Library", check out "Need Help Logging In?". You may be able to log in from off-campus using the Institution Finder.
- Don't see your institution's name in the Institution Finder? Ask your librarian or IT department about other ways they might provide remote access.
How to tell if you're logged in to your personal MyJSTOR account:
Access for your personal account is a little bit different than logging in to your personal account. The personal MyJSTOR account allows you to get free access to some articles if you're not a member of a subscribing institution. It also allows you to save your citations in My Workspace.
Are you logged in to your MyJSTOR account? Take the following steps to find out.
- Go to http://jstor.org.
- Look for your name at the top right of the screen.
- If it says "Login to My Account," that means you're not logged in with your individual MyJSTOR account, even if you are logged in with your institution's account, like in the example below:
- Click "Login to My Account" to access your MyJSTOR account. If you don't have a MyJSTOR account, click Register to get access to more free content!
Why does it still ask me to log in to my account when I'm already logged in?
So why does it still say "Login to My Account" at the top right if you're already logged in through your institution?
That's the login for your individual MyJSTOR account! These are useful for saving all of your work as an individual on JSTOR. You can organize your citations and even read some content online for free if your institution doesn't subscribe to some content you want to read.
There are two ways to log in: through your institution or your individual account. If it says "Access provided by [Your Institution]" at the top of the screen, you're logged in through your institution's subscription. (If it doesn't say this, but you want to log in through your school or institution, check out our article that tells you "How to Log In").
