More than 53.7 million Turks were eligible to vote in a poll to elect 550 deputies to the Grand National Assembly.

A total of 174,240 polling stations were open and nearly a million Turks living abroad cast their ballots at 122 embassies and consulates. Ballot stations at 33 airports and border crossings also closed at 5.00 p.m. on June 7.

As election results indicated the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party was the winner of Sunday's general election

The Justice and Development (AK) Party came in first in the fourth consecutive general elections to secure the largest number of votes -- 41 percent -- and to claim 258 seats in the Grand National Assembly, 18 short of a simple majority.

Second-place CHP had 24.96 percent while the MHP received 16.29 percent of the vote.

The second-placed Republican People’s Party (CHP) had 24.96 percent and saw 132 deputies elected while the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) received 16.29 percent, claimed 80 seats.

Another party the HDP received 13 percent of the vote and won 80 seats.

The turnout was 86.63 percent.
