House of Cards: Season 2 (2014)

SEASON:

TOMATOMETER

Critic Consensus: House of Cards proves just as bingeworthy in its second season, with more of the strong performances, writing, and visual design that made the first season so addictive.

Kevin Spacey remains a delightful Southern-accented villain as Frank Underwood.

House of Cards remains an absorbing tale of high-level government dysfunction populated by double-dealers who hold their aces under the table.

Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey) returns for another round of deception, manipulation and BBQ ribs in the second season of House of Cards, the delicious political thriller that has already changed television.

Harping on the outlandish and silly mechanics of House of Cards' political plots feels like taking it in the wrong spirit.

[It] depicts D.C. politics as a mess of personal vendettas... and then along comes Frank with his brisk, conscience-free willingness to take on what's needed to get things done -- he may be a ruthless sociopath, but there's something to admire there.

Still, the second season maintains the tension of the first season, and the "Bad Boys at Work" sign is still up. Let the binging begin.

House of cards, of which all the opinions I had heard coincided in their exceptionality, fascinates me moderately. [Full Review in Spanish]

I really enjoyed the season, but there's a hollowness to the show that comes of its borrowing a form but refusing some of that form's basic terms, thinking that makes it fancier.

Audience Reviews for House of Cards: Season 2

Jul 10, 2014

Season 2 picked up where season 1 left off directly. There are more shocking plot twists and exaggerations of characters, but I found this new change captivating, though the plot seemed weak and the characters are still infuriating, I embrace the battle between the jounalists and the corrupt politicians like Underwood himself.

Follows closely the formula of Season 1, with it's intricate plot and carefully placed dialogue, with an even meaner, crueler and darker story to tell that follows closely the events that preceded it. If you can stomach it, it will reward you immensely.

An even better season then the first, Season 2 of House of Cards is a brilliantly acted, written and directed series that continues to engross with even stronger thematic content then the last.
