This report details the response by the republican Council of State
to the Levellers' political mobilisation after the execution of Charles
I and the abolition of the monarchy. It reflects the Council's determination
to put an end to the dissemination of inflammatory pamphlets attacking
the government, and their reaction to large public meetings where
people heard the Levellers' latest ideas and were encouraged to subscribe
to their petitions.
