Human Rights Watch strives to maintain the highest level of accuracy in our reporting. We cannot reply individually to all corrections requests, but all such requests that specify the exact nature of the alleged inaccuracy and the publication (title, page number / web address and date) in which it appeared will be reviewed. Recent Corrections

  • Egypt: Security Forces Disappear, Torture Children

    “No One Cared He Was A Child”: Egyptian Security Forces’ Abuse of Children in Detention April 1, 2020: This report and the associated news release and Witness piece used the word “electrocuted” when describing the cases of several children allegedly tortured using electric shocks by Egyptian officials. In each case, “electrocuted” has been changed to “shocked with electricity” or a similar phrase.

     

  • Kidnapped by ISIS

    February 12, 2020: A previous version of the Kidnapped by ISIS report incorrectly stated the date and location of Firas al-Haj Saleh’s kidnapping. The report was amended to reflect the correct date and location.  

  • Mali: Militias, Armed Islamists Ravage Central Mali

    The press release was updated to add "in front of his children" in the following sentence: A witness described the killing of a family member: “He grabbed his 4-year-old, but the child cried out, alerting the jihadists who kicked in the door, dragged him out, and shot him in the head, in front of his children.”

  • Bangladesh: Crackdown on Critics, Activists

    This press release has been corrected to reflect that the Awami League led Grand Alliance won 96 percent of contested parliament seats. According to the government, the ruling Awami League party alone won 258 of the 300 seats, that is 86 percent.

  • Russia: Escalating Persecution of Jehovah’s Witnesses

    An earlier version of this publication:

    • Incorrectly reported the results of the Levada poll. This detail has been corrected.
    • Incorrectly stated an unnamed individual’s community service sentence of one. This detail has been corrected.
    • Incorrectly stated the year of the search at Tatiana Alushkin’s home, and that she and her guests were taken to the Investigative Committee. These details have been corrected.
    • Misspelled Evgeny Kayryak’s name.

     

  • Bangladesh: Online Surveillance, Control

    This press release has been corrected to say that the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center is overseen by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

  • Philippines: 80 Massacre Suspects Remain At Large

    A previous version of this news release incorrectly stated that the special court is located in Quezon City when, in fact, it is in Taguig City. 

  • United Arab Emirates

    This chapter has been updated to reflect changes made to the Personal Status Law in 2019 regarding women's requirement to obey their husbands and to reflect developments regarding legal protections from domestic violence. 

  • Armenia Should Invest More in Families, Not Institutions

    This dispatch has been modified to more accurately reflect Human Rights Watch’s recommendations to the Armenian government.

  • Iran: Deliberate Coverup of Brutal Crackdown

    This news release has been update to correct the date the protests began in Iran, the spelling of Mohsen Khancharli and Ali Fadavi’s names, and the source that reported the arrest of Kaveh and Yashar Daroshafaei.
