Puja Patel became editor-in-chief of Pitchfork, the most rusted voice in music, in October 2018.
Patel was most recently editor-in-chief of Spin, where she reoriented the brand to be digital-first, notably increasing its audience in her first year. Under her editorial oversight, Spin became a reporting-focused publication and broke several stories of note on the independent music world. Prior to Spin, Patel was a senior editor at Deadspin, where she helped launch the site’s lifestyle vertical and oversaw culture coverage. She also has held senior editorial positions at Wondering Sound and Spin, spent the early years of her writing career as a columnist at MTV and The Village Voice, and has contributed music writing to Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, VICE and FADER among others.
Patel is a founding board member of Building Beats, a non-profit organization that has provided music education to over 3,000 underserved youth across New York City since 2013.
