Major Agglomerations of the World - statistics and charts in maps, diagrams and tables
Contents: All urban agglomerations of the world with a population of 1 million inhabitants or more (reference date: 2020-01-01).
Definition: Urban agglomerations include a central city and neighboring places mostly linked by (more or less) continuously built-up areas. Some agglomerations have more than one central city (e.g., "The Ruhr").
Data: The presented population figures are projected according to the previous development to the given reference date. Official censuses and estimations are mostly the basis of this computation. The delimitation and composition of urban agglomerations is often defined or modified by »City Population« in order to increase comparability. This is a continuous, on-going process. The figures of such a statistic are all of varying accuracy. There are several reasons: varying relevance and accuracy of sources, difficulties of delimitation, errors in the projection and so on.
Usage: It is allowed using the above population figures if the following reference/link is added: Thomas Brinkhoff: Major Agglomerations of the World, https://www.citypopulation.de/en/world/agglomerations/
