K-pop girl group BLACKPINK is leveraging its global popularity to help raise awareness on climate change and encourage climate action. They urged their fans, known as BLINKS, to join them in their journey to learn more about climate change ahead of next year’s 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) hosted by the UK.

“This is our planet. This is our future. Climate change affects us all,” BLACKPINK member Lisa said in the video posted on their official Twitter account and YouTube channel.

The BLACKPINK members candidly said they still have a lot to learn about climate change.

“We’re not experts, and we’re not fully aware of all the issues. But we do care about our planet, and we want to learn more,” Rosé said.

“Part of the reason is that the earth is losing its natural habitats, and it’s losing them fast,” Jisoo said.

The COP26 summit, which is being held in Glasgow on Nov. 1-12, 2021, will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

“This is a global challenge. Each and every one of us could make a difference and we need to act now,” Jennie said.

BLACKPINK has been called the biggest girl group in the world, and was honored as Variety Hitmakers’ Group of the Year.

At the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), BLACKPINK was named as a 2020 Visionary by CJ ENM, as one of 10 Korean representatives whose achievements have inspired the world. BLACKPINK and BTS were the only idol groups who were honored as a 2020 Visionary.

BLACKPINK also won the Best Female Group and Best Dance Performance – Female Group (“How You Like That“) awards at the 2020 MAMA, along with the Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10 accolade.
