Hillary Clinton Honors International Women’s Rights Leaders at Georgetown

Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton honored five women trailblazers who have advanced women’s rights at great personal risk during an awards ceremony on Dec. 6 hosted by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace & Security (GIWPS). Ava Culoso (C’24) first met Secretary Clinton when she was a young child. After seeing her at Georgetown’s Hillary Rodham Clinton Awards, she said she better understood Clinton’s influence on her own path.

Linguistics Team Wins Competition, Professor Receives Accolades

A team of Ph.D. students representing the Department of Linguistics Corpling Lab won top marks in all five categories of DISRPT 2021, a recurring computational linguistics competition. The competition invites teams from around the world to build out and improve computational models that decode human discourse, which includes identifying meaningful portions of the text, detecting cue words and identifying the relationships between segments.

JUPS Students Contribute to Global Research Initiative on Mapping Peace Education

“Mapping Peace Education,” an online tool and publication analyzing global peace education efforts, is a new research initiative of the Global Campaign for Peace Education and several leading organizations engaged in peace education research and practice. This dynamic resource is designed to support the development of contextually relevant and evidence-based peace education through data and analysis on global formal and non-formal peace education efforts with the end goal of transforming conflict, war and violence.
