Frequently Asked Questions

Please email advancementevents@georgetown.edu or call 202-687-2064 (Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. EDT) if you have any further questions or need assistance.

  • What is John Carroll Weekend?

Alumni, faculty, students, staff, family members, and friends of Georgetown travel annually to a different city to celebrate the university and the leaders it creates. The weekend is packed with social, cultural, and intellectual events that provide participants with opportunities to engage with one another and with Georgetown’s outstanding faculty and university leaders. John Carroll Weekend includes tours and excursions, lectures from industry experts, and receptions that offer an exclusive and exciting experience of the host city or locale.

  • What are the John Carroll and Patrick Healy Awards?

Each year, Georgetown honors several alumni and one friend of the university for their lifetime achievements and record of service to Georgetown. Two types of awards are presented at a special banquet during John Carroll Weekend. The John Carroll Award was established in 1951 to honor alumni whose achievements exemplify the ideals and traditions of the university and its founder, Archbishop John Carroll. The Patrick Healy Award is named in honor of Patrick Healy, the first African American president of a predominantly white university, who transformed Georgetown from a small college into a modern university. The award honors a person who is not an alumnus or alumna, but who carries on Healy’s tradition of service to Georgetown.

To learn more about the Georgetown University Alumni Association (GUAA)’s recognition awards and their application process, please visit GUAA Awards.

  • Who may attend John Carroll Weekend 2022 in Nashville, Tennesee?

Georgetown alumni, parents, family members, friends, students, and faculty—as well as industry and political leaders—are invited to participate in John Carroll Weekend 2022.

  • What is the COVID-19 vaccine policy for John Carroll Weekend?

All attendees for this event must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have received a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot if eligible. Attendees will need to follow Georgetown University protocol for uploading their vaccination status, which is outlined below. Pursuant to Tennessee law, in lieu of providing proof of vaccination, attendees can provide results of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to the event.

In addition, attendees must continue to comply with Georgetown public health guidelines as they evolve, as well as CDC, local, state, and venue guidelines at the location of this event in Nashville, Tennessee.

  • How can I submit my proof of vaccination?

All attendees for this event can upload proof of vaccination by accessing the John Carroll Weekend Vaccination Portal

  • I have submitted my vaccination information through the portal. Should I still bring proof of vaccination with me to John Carroll Weekend?

Please do. We recommend bringing a physical or digital copy of your vaccination card or negative PCR test results with you.

  • I have opted to provide proof of a negative PCR COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to the event in lieu of vaccination information. How do I submit my results?

You will need to provide the results during check-in at the on-site registration suite at the JW Marriott in order to gain entry into any events or activities.

  • Can I still attend John Carroll Weekend if I have not submitted the required documentation either in advance or on-site?

No. We strongly encourage attendees to upload the required vaccination documentation in advance. If you will be verifying test results or vaccination on-site at the registration suite, we encourage you to build in additional time to visit the suite before your first event.

  • What is the deadline for submitting vaccine information via the John Carroll Weekend Vaccination Portal?

Please submit your vaccination information by Wednesday, March 30 at midnight EST. Beginning Thursday, we will no longer be accepting vaccination information through the John Carroll Weekend Vaccination Portal. Instead, you will need to visit the Registration Suite at the JW Marriott prior to attending any events in order to verify your proof of vaccination or results of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of the start of events. The Registration Suite opens on Thursday, March 31 at 9 a.m. in the Arlington Room at the JW Marriott.

If you have any questions, please email advancementevents@georgetown.edu.

  • What do I do upon arrival at the airport?

At Nashville International Airport (BNA), go directly to the designated pickup area at the Ground Transportation Center (Level 1 of Terminal Garage 2) if you are opting to use app-based rides. Around the city, rideshare services and taxis are generally available and easy to catch. All rides can be scheduled using smartphone apps.

  • What is the suggested attire for the weekend?

Throughout the weekend, weather is expected to be mild with temperatures staying between 41 to 66 degrees. Rain showers are possible throughout the weekend, so be sure to bring an umbrella or rain jacket just in case. This year’s schedule is jam-packed with walking tours and nearby events, so attendees are encouraged to bring their walking shoes and dress comfortably. The JW Marriott and Westin are located within close walking distance of Honky Tonk Highway and the rest of Downtown.

For Thursday evening’s President’s Welcome Reception, the suggested attire is cocktail. Saturday’s John Carroll Weekend Awards Banquet suggests black tie (formal) attire. However, the above are recommendations, and we encourage all attendees to wear attire suitable for their cultural and gender identities.

  • What is the check- in process?

Prior to checking in, please upload your COVID-19 documentation via the John Carroll Weekend Vaccination Portal by March 30. As a reminder, all attendees for this event must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have received a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot if eligible or take a COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours prior to the event and provide their negative test results. You can upload proof of vaccination or indicate that you will provide results of a negative PCR test by accessing the portal.

Once you get settled into your hotel room and drop off your things, swing by the Registration Suite in the Arlington Room of the JW Marriott to check in and pick up your nametag and pocket program. The Registration and Hospitality Suites will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and until 2 p.m. on Saturday.

If you are providing in-person proof of vaccination or results of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of the start of events, please do so at the Registration Suite in the Arlington Room at the JW Marriott. This must be completed before entering John Carroll Weekend events.
