Welcome to the website of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CDIS) at Oklahoma State University. The CDIS department is one of the 24 departments in the College of Arts and Sciences and is physically housed in Social Sciences and Humanities Building on the Stillwater campus. In line with the mission of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the University at large, the goal of the CDIS department is to offer not only world-class education but also provide evidence-based clinical services to individuals with communication disorders. The department offers an undergraduate (B.S) as well as graduate (M.S) degree programs. The B.S. program in Communication Sciences and Disorders prepares students to apply for the graduate program in Speech-Language Pathology as well as take on positions such as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant and/or an Audiology Assistant. The Master’s program in Speech-Language Pathology is the entry-level degree in the profession. The primary goal of our graduate program is to train students to be excellent clinicians who are capable of assessing and treating a range of communication disorders.

In recent years, we have recruited a diverse and talented group of graduate students not only in the state of Oklahoma but also from different parts of the USA (Alaska, California, Colorado, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin to name a few). All our graduate students receive clinical training that is well grounded in evidence-based practice. Our graduate students’ completion, employment, and Praxis exam pass rates have averaged more than 95% in the past four years. In addition to the generous Tuition Waivers and Assistantships that some of our students receive during their first year, we also offer multiple scholarships every year. Of late, we have had a steady increase in the number of students wanting to pursue a thesis option. We have also recruited new faculty whose research covers different clinical and basic areas of speech, language, and hearing sciences. The low student-faculty ratio in classrooms and an exemplary clinical training helps groom our graduate students to be excellent clinicians and researchers. There has never been a more exciting time to be a part of our department either as faculty or student. We welcome and encourage students from diverse backgrounds to apply to our academic programs.
