For the first time in 23 years Tunisia is waking up to a new leader.
President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has fled to Saudi Arabia, pushed out by weeks of popular protests.
Mohamed Ghannouchi, prime minister under Ben Ali, assumed temporary presidential power on Friday, but by Saturday the speaker of the parliament became interim leader in accordance with Article 57 of the constitution.
Al Jazeera’s Caroline Malone reports.
