The Omicron coronavirus variant, first detected in November 2021, has now been detected in at least 128 countries and territories worldwide.
More evidence is emerging that suggests the Omicron variant of the coronavirus causes milder symptoms. A World Health Organization or WHO official told reporters on Tuesday that there is now a “decoupling between cases and deaths.”
On Tuesday, the US, which currently has the highest number of confirmed cases, reported one million new daily cases. The UK, France and Australia also announced record daily Covid-19 infections, with the UK surpassing 200,000 cases for the first time on Tuesday.
