Ask Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz Sharif to help find Sajid Mehmood

Ask Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz Sharif to release Sajid Mehmood or disclose his whereabouts.

Sajid Mehmood, an IT engineer was disappeared from his home in Islamabad six years ago. His family witnessed his abduction and have been fighting for his release ever since. His daughter Aymun has written about her families ordeal after his disappearance. From courtrooms to classrooms, Aymun has documented the anguish her family has had to go through.

Aymun’s desperation for the release of her father is not unique. Enforced disappearances have plagued Pakistan since at least the mid-1980s and continue to date.  Loved ones are wrenched away by state officials or others acting on their behalf. The disappeared are at risk of torture, or even death.

Enforced disappearances are a crime under international law and violate several human rights. This heinous practice of enforced disappearances must end.  Families must be reunited with their loved ones or given answers as to their whereabouts.

Ask Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to release Sajid Mehmood or promptly bring him before a judge in a civilian court of law to rule on the lawfulness of his arrest or detention.
