6.6 billion programmes were streamed on BBC iPlayer in 2021/2022, up 8% on 2020/21.

BBC One was named Channel of the Year by the Royal Television Society in 2021.

Access services

We provide subtitles on all programme content broadcast on BBC One, BBC Two (including national and regional variants), BBC Four, BBC News, CBBC and CBeebies and on BBC Three long-form programming. Audio description is available on 20% of our programmes on BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four, CBBC and CBeebies and longform programmes on BBC Three. In-vision signing is provided on 5% of our channel output.

    1Xtra is a digital station that plays contemporary Hip Hop and RnB with a strong emphasis on new and live music. The digital station blends the best black music with entertainment, documentaries and news for 15-24 year olds

In 2021, the BBC Proms celebrated the return of live music on a scale not seen since before the pandemic with 61 concerts over 44 days, featuring more than 2,000 musicians.

BBC Sounds served up 1.54 billion plays of radio, music and podcasts – up 23% on 2020/21.

BBC Radio Ulster won gold in the National Station of the Year category at the 2021 IMRO Awards.

BBC Three Counties Radio’s Justin Dealey won gold for Best Local Radio Show at the 2022 ARIAs. BBC Radio Merseyside also won gold for Best Coverage of an Event for Liverpool Together.
