Council leader 'delighted' with Conservative gains
Chris Poulter, the Conservative leader of Derby City Council, was in buoyant mood after seeing his party strengthen its position at the authority.
He said: "We're delighted actually - I don't think it could have gone much better for us.
"We've made gains. We've held our own and overall our percentage share of the vote across Derby has increased significantly.
"So it puts us in a stronger position, it gives us a stronger team and a team we can go forward with for the next 12 months and build on our successes."

Essex local elections: The story of the night
The big story of the night in Essex was that the Conservatives took control of Harlow District Council from the Labour Party for the first time in nine years.
Labour held on to just one of the seven seats it was contesting and council leader Mark Ingall lost his seat.
He said he was "disappointed".
Southend remains in no overall control as does Colchester where the Greens gained a second seat.
The Conservatives held on to control of Thurrock Council and Rochford District Council.
Counting continues elsewhere today with results due from Basildon, Brentwood and Castle Point this afternoon and Epping Forest early this evening.
The results for Essex County Council will also come through this evening and the county's Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner is due to be announced on Saturday.
Derby City Council election: The story so far
We won't know the full result until counting starts again this afternoon, but the results so far are...
- Eight seats for the Conservatives (up three)
- Four seats for Labour (down one)
- Two seats for the Liberal Democrats (down one)
- Two seats for Reform (up one)
This means the Conservatives have tightened their grip on the city council but cannot win a majority.
For that they need 26, and they currently have 20 with two seats left to count.

How does the Derby vote work?
Derby votes in a different (and more frequent) way than most other places.
City councillors are elected in thirds.
This means every ward has three seats, and every year for three years there is an election for one of those seats.
Every four years there is a year without any elections
BBC East Midlands political editor Tony Roe said the system was seen as a way of ensuring more accountability.
But it has its drawbacks, with power changing hands frequently and long-term decision making becoming harder.
He added councillors had considered changing it but last year this was opposed by the ruling Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats.
