FM and AM radio
Many Public Radio stations in the USA and a number of local radio stations in Canada broadcast BBC World Service programmes on FM or AM. These may be individual programmes as a supplement to their own schedules, or chunks of programming broadcast over several hours.
To find stations in your area, along with their BBC broadcast times, enter your listening location in the search box on our Schedules page
For the USA - Digital satellite radio
XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio are two digital satellite radio services serving the USA (except Alaska and Hawaii) which can be received both at home and in the car.
XM Radio carries the BBC World Service English mixed programme schedule 24 hours a day.
Sirius Radio offers two BBC channels: 24-hour BBC World Service news in English, and BBC Mundo (Spanish).
These are subscription services. For full information, the XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio websites.
For the USA - Audio on MP3 players
Serenade Audio is a subscription service which allows you to sync your favourite BBC World Service radio programmes to an MP3 player (or PC) and listen whenever and wherever you like. Visit the Serenade Audio website for details of subscriptions and the types of player supported.
Short-wave radio
There are now no direct BBC short-wave transmissions for North America, but in some parts of the region it may be possible to receive frequencies intended for West Africa or the Caribbean (although we cannot guarantee reception).
In Hawaii, it may be possible to receive some of the frequencies for East Asia.
