1st book:
Cornelia Funke: Tintenherz (Inkheart)
A german author living in Malibu (California)

You can read aloud from the book of your choice during the UnCon contribution to the 24Hr Readathon. See the thread in Conventions and Meeting to join.

from a book called The Poet's Story which is described on the front cover as "a unique anthology of short prose fiction by distinguished poets of our time, from John Berryman to Edna St. Vincent Millay, Sylvia Plath to Richard Wilbur, selected and introduced by Howard Moss, poetry editor of The New Yorker."

It's an older book, copyright 1973, and was given to me a while back by a friend for BookCrossing, but unfortunately it started falling apart when I opened it and pages are falling out so it won't be registered and released.

It is currently 3:44 AM here in Maine, USA.

and will start reading a Norwegian book.

For our 2nd giveaway, in Hour #2 we want to know how you acquired the book in your hands.
A thrift/charity/opportunity store purchase, a library book, a BookCrossing sweepstakes win, a loan from a family member, a book club read that you purchased new online?

Welcome to the 3rd #BC24HrReadathon !!
Thank you, Ballycumber💖...& HELLO 🙋‍♀️to you & all my fellow Bookcrossers & others who are participating!!!😊 I am not connected to other Social Media, but I did post earlier in the BookCrossing Site Announcements Forum https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/9707003 , the Chit-Chat Forum https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/574298 , and the Book Talk Forum https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/9707005 .😉 It's just past an hour now into this 3rd Annual BC24HrReadathon📚, and I am checking in here from the State of Arizona in the United States of America, where I plan to continue reading on and off throughout the next 24 hours from my Greater Phoenix Digital Library Overdrive DIGITAL COPY of "The Art of Taking It Easy: How to Cope with Bears, Traffic, and the Rest of Life's Stressors" by neuroscientist, psychologist, and comedian Brian King, whose book is the April 2021 Big Library Read selection https://biglibraryread.com , which seemed very appropriate for joining in participation with you in this Saturday, 17 April 2021 Bookcrossing 24 Hour Readathon https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/573554 , as the Big Library Read made this book available to EVeryone via local Digital Library access through April 19th, with no holds or waitlists, so that anyone, anywhere in the world 🌎🌍🌏, could read the same book at the same time, and I just LOVE helping to make the whole world a Library!!!📚 HAPPY READING, &...BIG HUGS TO ALL!!!🤗🤟💖👉Here's an Amazon Link for more info on "The Art of Taking It Easy". https://www.amazon.com/---/1948062461

During hour 1 of the readathon my achievements were to eat breakfast, feed and cuddle my cat and get dressed.

I had several weird dreams last night and I'm feeling very dopey at the moment. I may need a catnap later on in the morning but I'll see how i go.

Hour 2 has just begun and I'm off to start reading "Wild Card" by Rachel Vincent; this morning I will also be reading "Legends of the Celts" by Frank Delaney.

I start with this book!
https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/16077375/
I am reading and start at page 117!

I start with Bruno in France
https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/15911093

have a look to our Austrian-Forum :-)
http://bcat.a-z.in/---/index.php?...

I am reading "Sieben Tage ohne", a book from a bookbox. It's not registered yet.

I'm reading Lawrence Hill's "The Book of Negroes" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Book_of_Negroes_(novel) - don't let the racist-sounding title irritate you, it's named after the real Book of Negroes, a historical document https://en.wikipedia.org/---/Book_of_Negroes
In the US, Australia and NZ, the novel was published under the title "Someone Knows My Name", the German translation is "Ich habe einen Namen".
I bought it in a charity shop in London a few years ago, and it ended up on Mt.TBR for quite a while. It's brilliant!

This is new to me. I had not heard of the book nor the original record of enslaved people who sought refuge in Nova Scotia!

I bought it myself at a second hand shop, almost 11 years ago, it’s one of the oldest books currently on my TBR shelf!

It's 10:30 a.m. here.
I'm taking a break from my household chores and sit down with you to read and drink a nice cup of tea (or two or three).
I'm readings "Die weiteren Aussichten" from Robert Seethaler, an comtemporary Austrian author i'm growing very fond of.
:-)

PS:
@eligi: the book was registered by you. :-))
https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/15875640/

I had a break of about 45 minutes for a quick lunch and taking care of the horses.
Now i'm back until about 3:00 p.m. to read on.
My book turned unexpectedly into a kind of "road movie", what might happen there next?
;-)

freut mich! - thank you!
http://bcat.a-z.in/---/index.php?...

I’ve just come back from donating blood where I started the readathon and will continue now with “Aforyzmy japońskie” (Japanese aphorisms). I’m reading it for one of the reading challenges in the German forum (Mt TBR to Brocken), but the book is in such a bad condition that it will NOT be registered. It’s part of my grandma’s heritage and is literally following apart.

Here’s a picture from the rest area with my yellow book: https://drive.google.com/---/view?...

I continue with Sienkiewicz’s Quo Vadis that I read on and off for months already.

For the first hour of the readathon I have been reading The Thursday Murder Club which has been passed round my family - Mum & brother both read it so far and now its my turn.
Looking forward to a day of reading. :)

We’ve had readers for hours 1 and 2 which is awesome!
Now we are entering the 3rd hour of the 2021 BC24HrReadathon.

Who is newly joining in the fun and just starting to read, and who is still with us from previous hours??

Not sure where we are up to.......you can see how far we've progressed here:
https://tinyurl.com/6azt36h5

and who is still with us from previous hours??
I'm still here at 2:07AM reading my very interesting Digital Copy of "The Art of Taking It Easy: How to Cope with Bears, Traffic, and the Rest of Life's Stressors" by neuroscientist, psychologist, and comedian Brian King, a "new to me author" who has a very engaging writing style. https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/9707118

Excerpt..."Ultimately overcoming stress and managing its impact on our lives depends on this basic realization: most of our stress is from perceived threats, not clear and present threats. If you are going to get all worked up over traffic, consciously or unconsciously, living in the world of what could happen rather than what is happening, you might as well watch out for unicorns." 🦄

I would like to join you, but until 16:00 I have my online classes at the Rigas Technical college (Latvia).

I finished my last ringbook - 70 pages - https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/16181698

And now I will read a pageturner from Denmark : https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/15993664

I'm reading now in Oslo, Norway! It's 11am here

Hello friends, it is 1:58 AM (8:58 UTC GMT/Zulu-time) in my little corner of the world. I'm currently reading Yes! We Are Latinos: Poems and Prose About the Latino Experience (https://tinyurl.com/tnyjns8w).

Purchased for a little free library for the children of migrant workers in my community, but since it's such a wonderful book, I will be purchasing additional copies to add to my personal collection and to release.

🎈🎉✨CONGRATULATIONS, Tammychi ✨🎉🎈...did you see up there🔺⁉ https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/9707166 You've won BC24HrReadathon WINGS❗❗😃

I did and I'm incredibly excited! Woo hoo! Thank you, BOOKWORMINUSALL! 🥳

I'm reading in Lanaken, Belgium. It's 11:10am here.

I'm reading Nooit alleen.
https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/16171718/

... and would like to share a few lines from Lawrence Hills "The Book of Negroes" / "Someone Knows My Name" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Book_of_Negroes_(novel)

He peered at the stove rigged up for cooking and heating, looked over the utensils hanging on the wall and bent over to examine the books on my shelves.
"They look well read," he said.
I told him that I had read each book many times.
"Isn't reading a fabulous escape from the world?" he said.

Switching now to my non-fiction book: The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb.
https://en.wikipedia.org/---/The_Black_Swan:_The_Impact_of_the_Highly_Improbable

"Isn't reading a fabulous escape from the world?" he said.
📚inDEED, it IS...thanks for sharing, ApaloniaX!!!😉

My Readathon started half an hour ago with a chapter of the rather tedious crime novel I've been reading on and off for quite some time, and which I want to finish today, at last.
Now I have to shoulder some daily chores first, before starting with the 'real' thing...
As I'm on none of the social platforms, I've added a 'Temporary Readathon Book' (which will be re-used for a 'real' book eventually) to my shelf for posting fotos or 'additional information' *<;-):
https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/16202009

Not sure how long before I get dressed so that I am fit to be on Zoom for the Unconvention.

My hope for the day is to finish reading the Paulo Coelho novel I started last week. I don't have much time for reading right now as I am finishing up my graduate studies. This is a welcome opportunity.

I switched to
Thomas Bernhard: Der Keller (Cellar)
and read it for an hour.

I am reading Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo. I have two copies on my TBR and I owe both of them so I'm hoping to finish it (or at least get most of the way) during the readathon.

A brilliant novel, read it last year, and recently read her "Blonde Roots", recommendable as well. I'd be surprised if you read something that I don't like at all, greenbadger ;-) Our taste in books is so similar.

I'm reading a bit of "Tales From the Farm" by Amanda Owen aka The Yorkshire Shepherdess.

She's probably better known to those based in the UK where she (and her large family!) have been on TV. She's written several books about her life on a Yorkshire farm.

I've posted a picture on Instagram taken a few hours ago (@awaywithfairy1).

but I started this morning with Y is for Yesterday.
https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/15981776

I won't be able to read all day but I also plan on dipping into 1612 the Lancashire Witch Trials. It's a copy I'm going to keep so there isn't a bookcrossing link but here it is on Amazon.
https://tinyurl.com/Lancashire-Witch-Trials

But will start some more reading now, still in Irving.

I'm reading in Lanaken, Belgium. It's 12:57am here.

I'm still reading Nooit alleen.

Entering hour 5 - you’re really doing it!!
As hour 4 clicks behind us, we head into hour 5 of this collective worldwide reading shindig!
You’re all really making this happen!!

I read from 6:45am to 7am ET from two books:
G'morning, G'night by Lin-Manuel Miranda (I read a page every morning and every evening)
and
Revenge Kisses by Addison Moore (the book currently on my Amazon Alexa)

For the next hour (7am -8am ET), on and off as I make breakfast for me and for my cats, I'll be starting Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng, a library book and a book I need to read for a book club discussion on Tuesday.

Little Fires Everywhere

Be careful not to set everything on fire. 😉

It’s soon time for lunch, so I’ll be taking a break from Quo Vadis. I hope I can return a bit to reading before the virtual Supply Store visit.

LOL I'll do my best!

Hello, I'm in!
I've actually just been reading for half an hour already before checking in; 12.45-13.15 (local time).
Out of Darkness, shining light by Petina Gappah.

There's a bit of time left until the virtual visit to the supply store.
And we just had a lovely Zoom readathon UnCon session of reading aloud for five minutes each of us.
Continuing with Lawrence Hill.

I read for 30 minutes this morning whilst waiting for my takeaway breakfast after my dog walk, I read a few chapters of midnight crossroad by Charlaine Harris (author of true blood)

I’m now at home reading a book Called Chandas secret by Allan Stratton

Yes I read some chapter in my book it’s very good. Now little work in the little garden then I READ again

Hi!
Good morning from Florida!
Alarm just woke me up, will try to squeeze in a page or two before the Supply Store Tour. Which is not to be missed!

Hi fellow BCers.😊I woke up this morning 6am EST and continued reading a book started earlier this past week, "Spirals in Time: The Secret Life and Curious Afterlife of Seashells" by Helen Scales.
I have to sign off so I can Zoom in on Moem's session which starts now for me. I'll be back!😷🐿

I managed to read for 2 Hours and 10 Minutes this morning.

It's time for lunch now (Hour 6) but I'll be back reading in Hour 7.

Today is Prince Philip's funeral, I'll most likely watch a bit of that at some point this afternoon. I think it's due to start during Hour 8 of the Readathon.

Before i have a Barbecue in my Garden,i read another Chapter in my book again 📕

Roughly 8 AM: Just got myself out of bed, fed the cats, started the coffee, and dived back in to my in-progress book, Sneeze by Naoki Urasawa ( https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/16157751/ ), a collection of short stories by the famed - and excellent - manga artist. (He's best known for his realistic and varied human characters, but one of the stories deals with a group of mice trying to outwit the household cat - a lovely change of pace!)

(Also posted in the BookCrossers forum with a not-very-good photo and the #BC24HrReadathon hashtag.)

Will be on and off the readathon through the day - as per usual; my entire life is a readathon {wry grin}.

Sounds like a great collection!

Loved Moem's supply store tour for the Virtual Unconvention!

It's nearly 9am ET here in Virginia, USA, and I plan to earread more of Little Fires Everywhere for the next hour.

Back at it
I read from 5:45 to 6:45 local time (EDT) and then went for a shower and to the grocery store. Sad to have missed Moem's tour of the Supply Store, but will read now until the scheduled author talk in an hour.

wing6of8wing 3 yrs ago
RE: Back at it
I read for 1 hour and 10 minutes the second go-round, making me a tad late to the Author Talk. But I finished my book -- Veronika Decides to Die by Paulo Coelho.

Now to figure out what to read for KateKintail's quiet reading hour

Who is here for our 7th hour?
More importantly who is with you?
Any reading pals keeping you company, furry or otherwise?

I’m joined by my border collie blu

After the virtual visit to the supply store, it was Quo Vadis again.
Like at Nakipa’s my partner was there playing on the Switch, and my ‘furry’ (or rather wool-y) blanket 😉 keeps me even more cozy.

Who is here for our 7th hour?

Nodded off for a bit after putting gel in my eyes and taking a blue light break at 3:13AM...happy to see others were still reading...but me, myself, and I are back at reading "the Art of Taking It Easy" during this 7th hour.😉

Checking in for the hour and several more :)
Got a big coffee, and Tom Clancy’s Executive orders waiting. I’m in the company of my favorite human, and my favorite two cats. Also have had two half wildish kitty visitors in tje food bowl in the yard today.

And I'll be finishing the last 50 pages of "The Memory Police" by Yoko Ogawa. There's no one else reading in this house but I have two dogs and two cats napping here and a boyfriend playing Switch to keep me company. :D

Hour 7 - I'm reading the girlfriend (Michelle Frances) a gripping thriller.

It is 14:26 here and I am reading "The Dogs of Rome" by Conor Fitzgerald.

Starting my morning with a cup of coffee and reading Coyote Heart (https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14614449/
This book was donated to our OBCZ, I'm reserving it for an upcoming bookbox
My plan is to read off and on all day today.

1pm ET and I just finished Coyote Heart....so 3 hrs so far. Taking a break and will decide which book to pick up next.

... 22 to go. Have to look for something to eat now... :-)

Also back after a short walk to catch some sun - I’ve another 41 chapters, but I’m not sure whether I’ll keep going with Quo Vadis for a lot longer today.

I’m not sure whether I’ll keep going with Quo Vadis for a lot longer today.

I’ve abandoned Rome in favour of Puddleby, Victorian England, where Dr. Dolittle and his animal friends are based. (Although in this volume they might travel to London.)
Mhmmm, snack. I think this might be the time for a little piece of chocolate?

I’m taking a dinner break.

Anyone enjoying some readathon snacks?
No snacks for me, but
Brussel sprout gratin
sounds delicious, earthcaroleanne!!!😊

Excerpt from current page in "The Art of Taking It Easy":

"Just as hunger can sometimes lead to crankiness (spell-check recognizes "hanger" but still seems to take issue with "hungappy"), stress can lead to negative emotions."
