Computer & Technology Classes
COVID-19 Update: Although the Boston Public Library branches are closed, you can still reach us for Computer, Smartphone, Online Support, and other Tech Assistance Questions!
Please call 617.859.2323 and your call will be directed to one of our operators from Instruction Services. Someone is generally available 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. If an operator is not available, you can leave a message with your name and contact number, and we will call you as soon as possible. Support is also available for Spanish speakers.  Assistance is also available by emailing computerworkshops@bpl.org   
In the meantime, our staff are working on offering remote classes and group support, please check the website for events. You can also find many resources for “Learning Technology at Home” in the links below.
Locations
Unless otherwise indicated, classes do not require registration.
The Central Library: The Community Learning Center Classroom is located on the Mezzanine Level of the Johnson Building of the Central Library and is open during classes and workshops held throughout the week. Contact us at 617.859.2323 or email computerworkshops@bpl.org
Branch Libraries: Classes are held throughout locations of the Boston Public Library. You can find classes at the branches by accessing the online calendar.
Services Offered
Classes and workshops are held on a wide range of topics, including:
  • Beginner level, basic computer classes for those with little to no experience, on iOS El Capitan (Mac) and Windows 10 platforms
  • Internet basics, evaluating websites, and internet safety
  • Job searching and resume assistance
  • Email, online tools
  • eBooks and eReaders
  • Smartphones and Tablets
  • Orientations to library e-resources, databases, and the catalog
  • Social Media
  • Introductions to Microsoft Office programs
  • Learning Circles: take a class online and meet in the library once a week to talk about the class
  • And many more!

If you’re unable to make a class, there are plenty of options to learn tech topics and skills at your own pace from a computer or smartphone. The following websites are free tutorials you can use for free or with your BPL card or e-Card:
