Yaren, district, de facto capital of Nauru, southwestern Pacific Ocean. It is located on the southern coast of the island and is the site of the legislature and a number of government offices. Points of interest include Parliament House, completed in 1992, and relics of Japan’s occupation of Nauru (1942–45) during World War II, such as guns and bunkers. Pop. (2011) 747.
