Stephen A. Schwarzman Senior Fellowship for Asia Studies

This fellowship for Asia Studies was started in 2019 with a gift from Stephen A. Schwarzman and focuses on the complex future that lies ahead of the world’s largest and most economically dynamic continent.

Stephen A. Schwarzman is chairman, chief executive officer, and cofounder of Blackstone, and is an active philanthropist and global leader in business and finance. Prior to cofounding Blackstone in 1985 with Peter G. Peterson, Schwarzman worked at Lehman Brothers and at the investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. He is also the former chairman of the President’s Strategic and Policy Forum under President Donald J. Trump.

Schwarzman has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations since 1992 and is also a member of the Business Roundtable and the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum. He serves on the boards of the Asia Society and the New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He is also on the advisory board of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and in 2013 he established the Schwarzman Scholars, an international scholarship program at Tsinghua University that educates future leaders about China. 

He received a BA from Yale University in 1969 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1972, and was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve in the interim. He has served as an adjunct professor at the Yale School of Management and on the Harvard Business School Board of Dean’s Advisors.
