Why this petition matters

Started by MTYH parents

Mayor and Town Council,

We are coming to you for help. Our league Monroe Township Youth Hockey was established over 35 years ago. It has given our children a place to play the wonderful game of ball hockey. Not only establishing friendships over the years but a large core hockey family. We have families that have been loyal to our league for all of these years. Currently our rink conditions have gotten worse. All of our neighboring towns have recently been able to purchase dek surfaces for their existing rinks and even add new rinks. They were able to accomplish this by receiving significant cooperation and financial support through their town. The dek surface brings so many benefits. Dek hockey has started to expand over our state the last few years. There are now highschool and middle school teams that could benefit from the use of our rinks as well.

With dek surfaces the towns can hold tournaments. This brings in out of town leagues to their facilities as well as their local businesses.

We are a non-profit organization but through multiple fundraisers we have been able to raise about half the money we need for a dek surface. We have also secured used boards from Holydell ice rink so that we can make our back rink larger and dek that as well. We are putting the work in and will continue to do so but we are asking you to please consider helping our organization. Kids have started to leave our league to play in other towns that offer better surfaces and updated facilities. We do not want to see that keep happening. We want to keep our MTYH hockey family going strong for years to come.

Your time, attention and consideration is greatly appreciated.
