A 16-year-old girl and a 46-year-old man were shot and wounded Sunday night in the Lawndale neighborhood, Chicago police said.

The two were outside in the 3900 block of West 13th Street about 11:20 p.m. when shots were fired at them. The man suffered gunshot wounds to the lower back and buttocks. The girl suffered three gunshot wounds throughout the body.

Both victims were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. The girl initially was in critical condition and the man initially was in serious condition.

The two were among at least 48 people shot, three of them fatally, over the weekend, according to Tribune data.

Police said witnesses told officers they saw a male attacker flee the scene, but police released no further details about what happened.

No one was in custody, police said.
