Federal Committee on Publication Internship

The U.S. Federal Office Committee on Publication intern will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and assignments with the government relations team in Washington DC, receiving mentoring from team members, gaining onsite experience with the federal government, and being part of the Christian Science community in the nation’s capital. The intern will learn about the Committee on Publication’s work with the U.S. Congress and federal regulatory agencies, and be an active and valued contributor. This is an engaging opportunity for an individual who loves Christian Science and is interested in civic engagement and domestic politics.

Opportunities include:

  • Build on your understanding of Church and engage prayerfully in the healing work of the Committee on Publication to “correct in a Christian manner impositions on the public in regard to Christian Science, injustices done Mrs. Eddy or members of this Church by the daily press, by periodicals, or by circulated literature of any sort.” (Church Manual p. 97:15–20)

  • Gain experience assisting with aspects of government relations work, such as drafting emails and memos, media monitoring, researching and analyzing complex current topics, preparing for congressional meetings, attending public forum events, and actively contributing to team meetings.

  • Become familiar with U.S. House and Senate office buildings on Capitol Hill, attend congressional hearings, and see firsthand how the U.S. government operates.

Qualifications & Desired Qualities:

  • Interested in engaging with Committee on Publication work and the Church Manual bylaw which directs it;

  • Cares deeply about the mission of The Mother Church

  • Critical thinker who is passionate about government relations and good government

  • Strong written and verbal communication, independent learning, and time management skills

  • Proficient in Google applications like Gmail, Calendar, and Drive

  • Can commit to spending two weeks in Boston, before spending the rest of the summer in Washington, DC.

Program Dates: May 20 - August 2, 2024

Compensation: Interns receive a $400/week living stipend to be in Washington DC for the summer, as well as housing that will be either in the form of a housing stipend or staying at  Asher House in Washington, DC. They will also receive a $900 grant upon completion of the internship. These payments are taxable benefits.
