John Newsome is a News Editor for CNN’s National Desk at their world headquarters in Atlanta, focusing on the intersection of news gathering, operations, social channels, and emerging technologies. He has managed logistics and editorial information for massive breaking news deployments, like the Orlando Pulse Shooting and the San Bernardino terrorist attack, among others.

In this role, Newsome regularly contributes to CNN.com, publishing stories on topics ranging from politics to human interest. He has also field produced for stories in the Southeast U.S., including two of President Obama’s trips to Atlanta.

Prior to the National Desk, he was an Associate Producer for Anderson Cooper 360.

Newsome earned an M.B.A. from Georgia Tech in 2016, and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Georgia in 2011.

Outside of CNN, he sings with the Grammy® Award-Winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus, performing a number of concert series throughout the year, ranging from major choral works to pops concerts. He has performed with the chorus three times at Carnegie Hall.
