AU: Sudan political crisis presents ‘grave risks’

The African Union Commission warns that the sensitive situation in Sudan threatens the country with grave political, security, and economic risks. A high-level AU delegation has concluded a three-day visit to Khartoum `with the stated aim “to help Sudan reach solutions that guarantee peace, unity, and stability”.
In a press statement in Khartoum on Monday, at the conclusion of the visit of the AU delegation to Sudan, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, renewed his commitment to solving African problems by Africans, in close cooperation with international partners, especially the United Nations, in accordance with an approach that respects these principles and the sovereignty of the Sudanese people in dealing with their affairs.
The high-level delegation of the African Union, led by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, the Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union, Bankole Adeoye, and the Director of the Chamber of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mohamed Elhassan Ould Lebat, visited Khartoum to help Sudan reach solutions that guarantee peace, unity, and stability.
During the three-day visit to Khartoum, the delegation met with “most of the political, social, civilian and military actors” in the county, in order to review the situation in Sudan. The AU officials discussed with them “ways to solve the complex crisis, in a way that guarantees a return to legitimacy and the constitutional civil order in the service of peace, stability and development”.
