Activists held a demonstration in front of the Egyptian embassy on Friday demanding the release of Sudanese student Waleed Abdelrahman, detained in Cairo.
The protestors held banners refuting the accusation of the Egyptian authorities that he is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and participated in demonstrations in Cairo.
Abdelrahman's friends confirmed that he actively participated in the Sudanese uprising, and that he left for Cairo a month ago to study German. The activists plan to organise a similar demonstration on Sunday.
The Sudanese embassy in Cairo announced in a statement that it has started communications with the Egyptian authorities to assess the facts and the circumstances of the detention of the student, who has been arrested on charges of terrorism and being member of a banned organisation.
Abdelrahman was arrested in Cairo on September 20, for his participation in demonstrations against the Egyptian government.
