Fox has commissioned a new family comedy series based Robb Armstrong's long-running comic strip Jump Start.

The pilot has been written by cartoonist Armstrong and Malcolm in the Middle's Andrew Orenstein, reports Deadline.

The popular comic has been running in syndication since 1989 and follows the life of police officer Joe Cobb and his wife Marcy.

The story follows the struggles of the couple as they try to balance work and raising their four children.

Jump Start was initially carried by 40 papers, but has since appeared in over 400 publications including The Los Angeles Times, the New York Daily News, The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Boston Globe.

There is no word yet on when the series will premiere on Fox.
