Did someone say pastries, macarons, and chocolates? Shayda Wilson, owner of Sweets by Shayda, aims to bring a little piece of France to Durham with her new pastry shop and café. Head on over and try something sweet...by Shayda.
INDIAN MONSOON RESTAURANT & BAR
105 W. Morgan Street, Ste 100

Named after the monsoon in India which is said to bring prosperity, happiness, and hope, Indian Monsoon opened last year with a mission to bring happiness to their guests with every plate. Stop by for some coconut curry, tandoori lamb chops, samosas, and a selection of cocktails.

Durham native Rashanda Mason recently opened The Slush, a new slushy lounge offering frozen cocktails and non-alcoholic frozen beverages in the heart of downtown. Stop by for music, fun, and slushy menu options like lusty lemonade and camron cray cray!

Press is a European-inspired coffeehouse offering quality coffee and a variety of sweet and savory crepes. The first location opened in Graham, NC, and the second location is now open on the American Tobacco Campus.

Plum is a newly-opened Southern American restaurant serving small plates, beverages, and desserts in downtown Durham. Make sure to visit the restaurant for some chicken and dumplings, shrimp and grits, and apple cobbler!
ROFHIWA BOOK CAFÉ

Offering titles by Black writers across the globe and a wide selection of coffee brews, Rofhiwa is scheduled to open in the old East Durham Bake Shop space in the next few months.

Pure Soul is a new comfort food restaurant aiming to spread the joy of vegan soul food as a fast food concept. Located in a little oasis off Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd., diners can enjoy dishes like popcorn “shrimp,” fried “chicken” sandwiches and vegan barbecue platters in a bright and welcoming space both indoors and out (as well as to go).

A new market and café opened up last year on Golden Belt Campus, and they are serving up a huge selection of yumminess for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Named after the owner’s daughters, Janie and Lightsey, the concept of the market and café is to be a starting or stopping point for any break in the day. So, start or stop by for some groceries and try the breakfast wrap with chorizo or the J. Lights cobb salad. To make it even easier to access J. Light's menu, you can now place an order while sitting next door at Hi-Wire Brewing, and someone from J. Lights will bring it to your table.
Two Roosters Ice Cream
800 Taylor Street, Ste 9-100 (Golden Belt Campus)

Jared Plummer’s love for making ice cream began on a North Carolina farmhouse beneath the watch of his grandma’s two black wooden roosters. He created Two Roosters Ice Cream from that same love and passion, and now you can get a scoop or a pint on Golden Belt Campus.
EVERLOU COFFEE CO.
506 N. Mangum Street, Ste 102

If you love that tasty, slightly sweet, cereal milk at the bottom of your cereal bowl, head to the newly opened EverLou Coffee Co. for a Fruity Pebbles latte or Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte. EverLou aims to provide a safe space with great coffee for everyone to enjoy, and they serve a variety of treats from local bakeries, including JP's Pastry and Junie B's Cookies.

PARKER & OTIS

Parker and Otis, a cafe serving breakfast, sandwiches, artisanal coffees, and wine, got a new home on the American Tobacco Campus. The store relocated to the new 5,600-square-foot space previously occupied by Tyler's Taproom. Check out the Parker & Otis website for parking and curbside suggestions.

The beloved Locopops started 2021 with a big transformation! Their party room is now a store of sundries, so you can stop by for frozen treats and peruse their unique selection of goods.
