Many working environments – one mission

We offer a richly varied world of work for you to explore, since our activities and the topics we deal with are much more challenging and wide-ranging than is generally assumed. Besides preserving the cultural heritage, we also manage knowledge. We are curators, procurators of facts, navigators in an ocean of information, and pathfinders in a digital, networked world of knowledge.

Our locations in Leipzig and Frankfurt am Main are also home to the German Museum of Books and Writing, the German Exile 1933–1945 and the German Music Archive. As a cultural institution, we are committed to an enlightened, democratic civil society.

With such a broad base, everyone is sure to find their métier, the niche in which they can grow.

Advantages and Benefits

Kindness is part of the German National Library’s DNA. Anyone who gets to know us can feel it. In the respectful, often cordial way we treat each other, and in the cooperative relations between colleagues. In this spirit, we as employers do our best to accommodate our staff.

We give anyone who wants to structure their own working day, contribute ideas and try out new things the freedom to do so. Along with flexible working hours, for example, we offer generous part-time contracts and holiday provisions. This makes it easy to reconcile your work and private life.

We live diversity. This is why we ensure that everyone at the German National Library has fair and equal opportunities for further development with sound prospects for the future. As a federal institution, we offer all the benefits available to public service employees, e.g. job security, attractive social benefits and a retirement pension.
