Arrangements for Quarantine and Testing

Durham University will:  

  • reimburse all new students travelling from red-list countries for the cost of mandatory hotel quarantine packages including pre-departure and post-arrival testing.
  • reimburse all new students travelling from amber and green list countries for the cost of pre-departure and post-arrival tests up to £200, and this can (if applicable) include test to release.
  • provide free quarantine accommodation (5 or 10 days depending on whether the student chooses to ‘test to release’ scheme) in College for students arriving from amber-list countries who plan to live in College accommodation for their degree studies.

If you intend to claim a refund please read through the information on our Student Support Fund webpage and fill out the application. 

We will not be able to provide financial support for amber-list students quarantining in private accommodation.

How to claim costs?

Students will be able to reclaim the costs of mandatory hotel quarantine and testing when they arrive at Durham University. Details of the process for reclaiming these costs can be found at the Student Support Fund webpage.

Reimbursement payments WILL NOT be made to overseas bank accounts.

Please submit the reimbursement form when you:

  • Are in the UK
  • Have opened your UK Bank Account (and know your bank account number and sort code)
  • Can upload a copy of the receipt showing your Hotel Quarantine and/or PCR Test charges.

Deposits

Please note: Students who are unable to enrol this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic may be able to obtain a refund for any tuition fee deposit paid, please see our Coronavirus refund policy
