The sharp end of the global vaccination race

Listen to this podcast

90-YEAR-OLD Margaret Keenan from Coventry in England was the first person in the world to receive the jab for covid-19 in December 2020. More than 3bn three billion shots have been administered since then, but the number of cases of covid-19 detected worldwide has also passed 180m. The world remains in a race between infections and injections.

“The Jab from The Economist” has been a weekly podcast series reporting from the sharp end of the vaccination race. It was published each week from 15th February 2021 to 28th June 2021.

The hosts Alok Jha, The Economist’s science correspondent, and Natasha Loder, our health-policy editor, talk to The Economist’s science and data teams, global network of correspondents, and key players to bring a unique perspective and depth of insight. The stakes couldn’t be higher. It’s the most ambitious inoculation programme the world has ever seen and the health and wealth of the planet are in the balance.
