Ramadan headaches: why we get them and how to shake them off
Al-Masry Al-YoumApril 20, 2021
Why do we get a headache during the month of Ramadan? Headaches are the most common complaint during the holy month. People usually get a headache before iftar, and as they are unable to take pain relieving medicine, they feel exhausted, tired, and annoyed.
But there is no need to worry– we’ve got some tips for avoiding these headaches. But first, let’s explore their cause.
You may get headaches during Ramadan because of…
1 – High or low blood pressure
2 – Low blood sugar caused by fasting
3 – Dehydration
4 – Drinking too much caffeine before fasting
5 – Being anemic
6 – Sinus problems
Here’s how to avoid the headache:
1 – Avoid overeating during iftar. This will draw blood circulation to your stomach, and the result will be a terrible headache.
2 – If you suffer from a headache before iftar, it’s recommended to eat dates to break your fast, as they are easy on the stomach and have the proper amount of sugar to restore your body’s strength.
3 – Drinking water is very important after iftar, so from the time of iftar until suhoor, drink enough water and avoid soft drinks and caffeine.
4 – Don’t stay up late, then get up early to go to work. Of course you will get a headache. Go to bed at a reasonable time, wake up refreshed and ready for a new day!
5 – Suhoor should not be missed, but you need to avoid overeating.
6 – If you are fasting and you have a headache, soak your feet in warm water, put something cold on the back of your head, and rest your eyes for a while. You’ll feel a lot better after that.
