DLSU Is One of the Philippines' Biggest Research Powerhouses

No matter what school you come from, it's hard not to be proud of La Salle. 

De La Salle University (DLSU) was recognized as one of the country’s most productive research institution, according to a report by Business Mirror mentioning citation database Scopus.

According to the Scopus report, DLSU produced over 600 Scopus-indexed research publications in 2019, the highest output ever produced in a single year by a research institution in the Philippines. The university alone produced 15 percent of the Philippines’ research output.

DLSU’s innovative and environmentally relevant research has caught the attention of governments around the world. In January 2020, the university won a P13-million grant from the United Kingdom for its research on turning toilet sludge into fertilizer.

The university also did research on developing a spacesuit made with abaca fiber. In September 2019, the La Salle Food and Water Institute helped revitalize the Philippine coffee industry with research that aimed to understand the chemical components of coffee.

DLSU is considered one of the Philippines’ leading universities along with the University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, and Ateneo de Manila University. Together, the universities are colloquially referred to as the “Big Four” because of the impression that the schools offer the best quality of the quality of education in the country.
