An estimated 7,615,000 readers wake up every morning with a daily in the life of India. And this daily has been engaging with its readers for the last 175 years. The year 2013 sees The Times of India, also referred to as “The old lady of Bori Bunder’, achieve this landmark.

The celebrations have already begun, with the launch of an innovative augmented reality christened ‘Alive’, which is bringing back the youth to the physical newspaper, This is followed by a new award show, Times of India Films Award (TOIFA).

In order to interact with the readers, the paper came out with a full page ad and two special pages dedicated to the entire work done in the past.

The message to the readers stated, “As we complete 175 years, we don’t just look back at what we have achieved, but also took ahead at what we hope to do. We aim to begin a year-long programme of initiatives to mobilise the youth and make changes at the grass root level. And we prepare to not just write, but shape the story of a better, more powerful India.”

All the pages carry different events and pictures since the paper’s inception as the two pages take the readers on a journey of some of the most prominent events that took place in India’s history – including India’s Independence, Mahatma Gandhi’s death, Olympics hockey victory, Cricket World Cup victory, and more.

To further corroborate the message of how the paper has been a part of and a spectator to the various landmarks in India, The Times of India has also unveiled a new TVC with actor Ranbir Kapoor, where he describes the long journey of the paper and how it plays a vital role in the development of the nation.

The Times of India Editor Jaideep Bose has also penned down a few lines on this landmark year in a special column, wherein he said, “The fact is that this paper has grown from a single edition of few thousand copies to some 50 editions with a circulation of close to five million, the largest in the world for any English newspaper by a long margin.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been featured in the latest edition of Newsweek.

In a 90-minute interview, he spoke about maintaining peaceful relations with China, and the urgent need to address the "prolonged situation" on the borders.

He talked about India's growth as a global economic power and how it is "a natural choice for those looking to diversify their supply chains".

As per media reports, Narendra Modi is only the second Indian Prime Minister after Indira Gandhi to be featured on the cover of Newsweek.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the government's efforts towards inclusive growth. He spoke about the people of Jammu and Kashmir taking part in the general elections, the revocation of Article 370 and other issues.

He expressed happiness on the sucesss of UPI and the initiatives taken under the Digital India campaign.

Zafar

Zafar Agha, the editor-in-chief of the National Herald passed away early on March 22, 2024. He was 70.

Agha began his career as a journalist with the Link magazine in 1979 and was active in the profession for more than 45 years. During this time he worked with the Patriot and the Business and Political Observer, with India Today as political editor, and at ETV and the Inquilab Daily.

His final stint was with the National Herald group, first as editor of the Qaumi Awaz and later, as editor-in-chief of the National Herald.

He also served as member and later as officiating chairman of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions till 2017.

Britannia NutriChoice has recently unveiled a Mixed Reality advertisement, featuring Ranveer Singh in The Hindu newspaper.

The advertising showed Singh holding up a phone screen with a QR code on it for the readers to scan.

The QR code redirected to a link which displayed Singh speaking about the nutritional benefits of NutriChoice biscuits. 

Amit Doshi, Chief Marketing Officer, Britannia shared on Linkedin, “Chuffed to unveil India’s first ever AI-powered camera campaign for NutriChoice. The campaign kickstarts with an innovative print campaign, which creates a Mixed Reality-like experience with just a smartphone.”

He further shared that the cutting-edge technology is built by Flam, AI-powered mixed reality content platform for marketing. With this innovative campaign, consumers are able to scan the QR code on their smartphones leading to experiencing a video from Singh within their smartphone camera experience, without the need for app downloads or webAR.
