US Navy Rear Admiral. McCorkle became the Commanding officer of the Destroyer U.S.S. Tillman in June 1942. McCorkle became the Commanding Officer of the Battleship U.S.S. New Jersey on November 17, 1951 and commanded that ship until October 20, 1952. In the late 50's McCorkle, now a Rear Admiral, was Commander of the U.S. Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey.
