Katy Perry, Cardi B And Miley Cyrus: Five Important Moves On This Week's Hot 100

This article is more than 4 years old.

Several of the most popular women in pop have returned with new singles from upcoming releases, which is a sign that late 2019 may be full of big albums that could produce many longstanding successes. At the same time, one of the most unlikely groups to ever reach the Hot 100 enter for the first time with a politically-charged (or not, depending on how you look at it) new tune.

Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s Hot 100 singles chart.

No. 15 - Katy Perry - “Never Really Over”

Perry semi-surprised fans with the release of her new single “Never Really Over,” which she only announced a short time before it dropped. The track, which is assumed to be the first taste of a new album, starts its time on the tally at No. 15, becoming the highest-ranking debut on this week’s Hot 100. “Never Really Over” is Perry’s nineteenth top 20 hit, and with any luck, it will soon become her fifteenth top 10.

No. 16 - Cardi B - “Press”

Coming in right behind Katy Perry’s new single is Cardi B’s just-released banger “Press,” which enters at No. 16. The track seems to serve as the latest single from the rapper’s upcoming sophomore album, which should arrive this year. “Press” instantly becomes Cardi B’s lucky thirteenth top 20 hit on the Hot 100, and it’s her third such success from her second full-length, following both “Money” (No. 13) and “Please Me” with Bruno Mars (No. 3).

No. 54 - Miley Cyrus - “Mother’s Daughter”

As her new EP She Is Coming debuts at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, just one track from the six-song collection makes its way to the Hot 100. “Mother’s Daughter,” which opens the set, starts at No. 54, giving Cyrus her forty-seventh appearance on the tally, including tunes labeled under Hannah Montana, the alias she used when she first became a star.

No. 91 - John Rich - “Shut Up About Politics (ft. The Five)”

John Rich is a well-known country musician, but who is The Five? The Five is comprised of Greg Gutfield, Donna Brazile, Dana Perino, Jesse Watters and Juan Williams, who co-host a show of the same name on Fox News. The singer-songwriter, best known as one-half of Big & Rich, charts his second solo effort, while the news anchors all snag their first, and perhaps only, Hot 100 hit.

No. 99 - SHAED - “Trampoline”

Electro-pop trio Shaed have long been a favorite among rising pop acts on streaming platforms, but they had yet to score a true hit...though they may not need to wait much longer. The band’s new single “Trampoline” has finally reached the Hot 100, rising to No. 99. The track is their first placement on the important tally, and with some support and some luck, it will hopefully continue to climb.
