GTA, Rockstar co-founding brothers squeeze into Britain's 1,000 richest people list with £90 million

The Sunday Times just published its list of the 1,000 wealthiest people in Britain, and it greeted a few newcomers from the games industry.

Most notably, Sam and Dan Houser, the creators of the Grand Theft Auto series and co-founders of Rockstar Games. They barely made the list, coming in at the 947 spot with a joint fortune of £90 million ($151 million). Consider that it in 2008 it took £80 million to make the list (compared to £85 million this year) and that this is the first year the Housers made it, so they had to make up the difference in that time.

Take-Two recently revealed that Grand Theft Auto V shipped (not sold) 33 million copies to date, and we know that he game generated $1 billion in its first three days.

Way above the Housers are a few other newcomers who made their fortune on the success of the free-to-play mobile game Candy Crush Saga. Internet entrepreneur Mel Morris’ stake in Candy Crush maker King is worth £407 million ($684 million), which makes him the wealthiest games-related person on the list at the 238 spot.

There are two other King executives on the list behind Morris, as well as Neil Taylor, owner of British video games retailer Game, and Andrew and Paul Gower, who developed RuneScape.
