President Donald Trump had harsh words for “Saturday Night Live” after the show’s season premiere, but still managed to praise musician Kanye West for supporting him during a musical performance.

Trump tweeted Sunday that he doesn’t watch the comedy show anymore because it is “no longer funny.” The onetime host has tweeted harshly about “SNL” a few times during his presidency, as the show has featured a number of satirical sketches about him. But the president still managed to praise West for putting on a “Make America Great Again” hat and delivering a pro-Trump speech during his musical guest appearance on the NBC show.

“Like many, I don’t watch Saturday Night Live (even though I past hosted it) - no longer funny, no talent or charm,” Trump tweeted. “It is just a political ad for the Dems. Word is that Kanye West, who put on a MAGA hat after the show (despite being told ‘no’), was great. He’s leading the charge!”

Trump later tweeted to brag about low unemployment rates for black Americans, claiming Democrats “have done NOTHING for African-Americans.”

The president has consistently touted the black unemployment rate to credit his presidency, but the number was steadily declining long before he entered office in 2017. The number is also still drastically higher than the unemployment rate for white Americans.

West ended his appearance on “SNL” by telling the crowd that he was being bullied backstage. The artist said he was told not to go onstage with the MAGA hat, calling the hat his “Superman cape” that gave him freedom.

West has been outspoken in support of Trump, despite being criticized by friends and fans. Although West’s full remarks didn’t air, Comedian Chris Rock posted videos of the rant to Instagram.

“It’s so many times that I talk to a white person about this, and they say, ’How could you support Trump? He’s racist,” West said. “Well, if I was concerned about racism, I would have moved out of America a long time ago.”

While “SNL” typically posts clips of musical performances and sketches online, the show has not released a full version of West’s speech to its Twitter or YouTube accounts.

West followed his speech by tweeting a photo of him in a MAGA hat on Sunday. The rapper said the hat “represents good and America becoming whole again.”

“We will no longer outsource to other countries,” Kanye captioned the photo. “We build factories here in America and create jobs. We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment. Message sent with love.”

For the record, the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was passed in 1865 to abolish slavery. It seems that West was referring to the part of the amendment that allows involuntary servitude “as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.”
