TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern last night saluted the organisers of a highly secretive high achievers' summit for hosting the event in Dublin even though it caused chaos in the south city for the last three days. There was tight security last night as Mr Ahern addressed the summit at the Four Seasons Hotel in Ballsbridge. Among those who attended were former US president Bill Clinton, former Russian president Mikhail Gorbachev, Senator George Mitchell and Hamid Karzai, Chairman of the Interim Administration of Afghanistan.

The event, organised by the US-backed Academy of Achievement, was hosted by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and attended by 200 of the world's most outstanding graduate students. Mr Ahern said that the top priority of the new Government is to push forward the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement and address "the stubborn problems which stand in the way of greater reconciliation and mutual understanding".
