President

The President serves a one year term and works during that time to propose programs and policies designed to advance the best interests of the Association. He or she convenes and presides over meetings of the Executive Committee, the Governing Council, and the Annual Business Meeting while overseeing the work of the Executive Office.

 

Marijke Breuning, ISA President 2024-2025

Regents Professor, Department of Political Science
University of North Texas

Marijke Breuning is a Regents Professor at the University of North Texas (UNT). Her departmental home is Political Science, and she is a Fellow of UNT’s Castleberry Peace Institute and affiliated with UNT’s Women’s and Gender Studies program. She specializes in foreign policy analysis. Her publications include work on the politics of foreign aid and the impact of women’s representation in both donor and recipient countries on foreign (aid) policy. She also has worked on small states, the politics of international children’s rights (and especially intercountry adoption), and the sociology of the profession. She has published numerous refereed journal articles and book chapters, as well as several books. Her most recent book is How to Get Published in the Best Political Science and International Relations Journals: Understanding the Publishing Game (with John Ishiyama).

She served as editor of the American Political Science Review (2012-2016), was a member of the inaugural editorial team of Foreign Policy Analysis (2005-2009), a co-editor of the Journal of Political Science Education (2005-2012), and a book review editor of International Politics (2000-2003). She serves – or has served – on several editorial boards and in numerous leadership positions within ISA and other professional organizations.
