Founded in 1979, the North of Ireland Family History Society [NIFHS] now has more than a dozen Branches, whose members typically meet monthly, and also many Associate members worldwide.

The objective of the Society is to foster an interest in family history with special reference to families who have roots in the North of Ireland and their descendants, wherever they may be.

The NIFHS is a voluntary, non profitmaking organisation, depending on the financial support of amateurs interested in family history and volunteer effort in running the Society. The Society is not a research agency, although we do like to put people in contact with one another.

The Society has a well stocked Research Library in Belfast and publishes its journal, North Irish Roots, twice a year. It also publishes books and other collections of genealogical records. Details may be found on the Society's website www.nifhs.org.
