Allison has been actively involved in domestic violence and sexual assault issues for more than two decades, beginning her career as a direct service provider in North Carolina and Florida domestic violence shelters. She worked within the federal government for eleven years, including at the White House in the Office of the Vice President and at the Department of Health and Human Services Family Violence Prevention and Services Program. From 2000-2008, Allison advocated for victims at the national level, first at the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and then as the Public Policy Director of the National Network to End Domestic Violence. She played a key role in drafting and passing federal legislation, including the reauthorizations of the Violence Against Women Act in 2005 and 2013 and the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act in 2010.
Allison is passionate about OVW’s mission and ensuring that the Office’s work meets the diverse needs of all survivors as it strives to prevent and end sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.
