KUWAIT: Efforts by the domestic help department in cooperation with Director General of the Residency Affairs Department Maj Gen Talal Maarafi succeeded in facilitating the travel of a Madagascan woman suffering from terminal cancer that had reached its final stages. A security source said the domestic help department contacted the Madagascar Embassy in Riyadh to obtain a travel document to enable the woman to leave, and also dropped all fines against her stemming from her being reported absconding.

The source said that a call came from Makki Jumaa Hospital about a Madagascan woman in a very bad condition who may only have a very short time to live, but there was no data about her. Authorities discovered that the patient was an absconding domestic helper and her sponsor was identified and contacted, but he did not give her passport, so the embassy was contacted and the document was obtained. A committee provided the ticket for the patient

Maid received unpaid salaries

Meanwhile, the domestic help department summoned a citizen and made her pay KD 3,500 to a Filipina who worked three years for her without pay. The citizen paid for her travel ticket too. The expat resorted to her embassy to complain about not receiving her salary, so the sponsor was called and she admitted to not paying her. — Translated from the Arabic press
