Klaas Knol has passed away

12 July 2019

We just received the sad news that our ex-employee Klaas Knol passed away on Friday 12th of July. He was 64 years old.

Klaas was without a doubt one of the most beloved people in the Dutch comic book scene and has been an indispensable part of Lambiek for decennia. Starting off in the late 1970s as a client and personal friend of our founder Kees Kousemaker, he became a store employee in 1985 and worked in Lambiek until 2017. Only Kees himself had a longer run. Klaas' service was awarded in 2010, when he won the Hal Foster Award (see photo). Although he has been ill for a long time this is still a big shock to us and his family. The disappearance of his encyclopedic knowledge of comics will also be a great loss to us and anyone who is involved with comics. Klaas will be cremated in private this Wednesday. For everyone who wishes to say goodbye with other friends and loved ones, we will have some drinks on Friday 19th from about 5 o’clock. We hope to see you there to raise a glass to Klaas.
