Bernardine C. Verdile, wife of Michael A. Verdile Sr., passed away Dec. 2, 2014 at home surrounded by her husband, children and Natalie (Bundy) Verdile.

Mrs. Verdile, commonly called “Bernie,” grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa. and moved to Alexandria, Va. after marriage to husband before moving to Newark in 1962, when they drove across country to begin a new chapter in their lives. The Verdiles made a home raising their children in Newark for more than 50 years. Mr. and Mrs. Verdile were married for 59 years.

She is survived by daughters Michelle (and husband Charlie Mensinger), Marlene and son Michael Jr. She was pre-deceased by Mary Michelle (1957).

She is also survived by her seven beautiful grandchildren, Nicole (and husband Matthew) Chamberlain, Michael A. Verdile III, Devin W. Verdile, and Janelle, Craig, Alyssa, and Kyle Mensinger.

Mrs. Verdile is also survived by sister, Marian Spiecher (“Mo”), Daniel (and wife June) and Ernie (and wife Norma) Tomasko, and predeceased by her parents Andrew and Sophie; brothers Andrew (and wife Marge), Jack, and Regis. She is also survived by 25 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 12 with an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Edward Church in Newark.
