The Yemeni national army and popular resistance have made further advances in the country’s highlands, including the Houthi heartland of Sa’ada.

Yesterday, airstrikes conducted by the Saudi-led coalition killed two high ranking Houthi commanders in Harad and Midi, both situated in the Hajjah province.

The popular resistance forces also managed to foil a plan that intended to smuggle weapons to the Houthi rebels from Aden, which was liberated from Houthi militia forces in July 2015. The truck was seized in the neighbouring province of Lahij while on its way to the capital Sana’a.

On Sunday, the Yemeni army’s media reported that the army, loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, along with local resistance forces had pushed further towards Sa’ada, gaining control of the 101st Mountain Infantry Brigade, which guards Al-Thar and Habsh mountains. They are currently in the process of clearing landmines and making sure no rebel fighters are left in the surrounding hills.

This happened a day after the Saudi-led coalition killed 25 Houthi fighters near the bordering region of Najran.
