Our scientists are successful both at home and abroad

Masaryk University's position as a science leader is linked to its accomplishments in the area of research project acquisition. Our scientists have achieved considerable success with respect to both national and international grant programmes. This is confirmed by official European Commission data, which indicate that MU is the most successful Czech grant funding applicant within the H2020 programme.

In recent years, some of our researchers have been awarded the most prestigious European research grants – the ERC Grants were obtained by virologist Pavel Plevka, biologist Richard Štefl, lawyer David Kosař, and biologist Marek Mráz. Moreover, two excellent scientists relocated with their ERC Grants to Masaryk University – the world's leading experts in graph theory Daniel Kráľ and in art history Matthew Rampley. In December 2020, 3 ERC Consolidator Grants were obtained by our researchers David Kosař, David Zbíral and Robert Vácha. A year later, Pavel Plevka managed to get this grant again, and in 2022, Madalina Bianca Moraru managed to get the ERC Starting Grant as the eleventh ERC for MU. In 2023, 2 ERC Starting Grants were awarded to Peter Fabian and Petr Těšina.

MU was also the first institution in the Czech Republic to receive the Wellcome Trust in Science grant.
