Adults (18 age older)

How to apply to be a San Antonio Public Library Volunteer.
Applications are available at any San Antonio Public Library Location or can be downloaded and printed. Applicants should apply directly to the location at which they want to volunteer.

Teens (Ages 14-18)

Teens, ages 14-18, and can volunteer in-person at most SAPL locations and/or Off-site. Please visit the Teen Volunteer Opportunities page.

FAQ’s

• What is the minimum age to volunteer at the San Antonio Public Library?
  All volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Some assignments may have a higher minimum age.
• How to apply to be a San Antonio Public Library Volunteer.
  Applications are available at any San Antonio Public Library location. Applicants should apply directly to the location at which they want to volunteer. 
• How long does it take to get started?
  It can take up to 2 weeks to get started maybe longer if there are no openings immediately. All volunteers must submit to a background check that is sent to the City of San Antonio Human Resources Department. 
• What is the minimum time commitment?
  We require that volunteers commit to at least 24 hours of service which can be served over 3-6 months. 
• Does the San Antonio Public Library participate in Court Ordered Volunteer Restitution programs?
  At this time the library does not offer court ordered community service hours.
• Does the Library have opportunities for groups to volunteer?
  SAPL has very limited group volunteer activities throughout the year; group leaders should contact Ronee Anderson at 210.207.2631. The Friends of the San Antonio Public Library run the “Book Cellar”, a used book store in the basement of the Central Library and can often use the help of groups of volunteers. The Book Cellar phone number is 210.227.9519.
