David Rohde

David Rohde is a former executive editor of newyorker.com. During his tenure at The New Yorker, he profiled William Barr, Donald Trump’s final Attorney General, and wrote about the Justice Department, threats against American democracy, and disinformation, among other topics. He previously served as a reporter for Reuters, the New York Times, and the Christian Science Monitor. He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for international reporting, in 1996, for stories that helped expose the Srebrenica massacre during the war in Bosnia, and, in 2009, he shared a Pulitzer Prize with a team of Times reporters for coverage of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Rohde also shared in The New Yorker’s Pulitzer Prize for public service, awarded in 2018, for stories by Ronan Farrow which contributed to a worldwide reckoning regarding sexual harassment and assault and the dynamics of gender and power. He co-edited a series of New Yorker stories on the fall of Roe v. Wade, written by Stephania Taladrid, who was named a Pulitzer Prize finalist for that work in 2023.

Rohde is the author of several books, including “In Deep: The F.B.I., the C.I.A., and the Truth about America’s ‘Deep State’ ”; “Beyond War: Reimagining America’s Role and Ambitions in a New Middle East”; “A Rope and a Prayer: The Story of a Kidnapping,” co-authored with his wife, Kristen Mulvihill; and “Endgame: The Betrayal and Fall of Srebrenica, Europe’s Worst Massacre Since World War II.”
